Winter Learning Journey Day 4 Activity 2

Whale Rider

Traditionally, boys are only allowed to become a chief in a Maori tribe however, this tradition looks to be upset when the child that is in line to be the next chief dies at birth but is survived by his twin sister, Pai

However at the age of 12, Pai asks for help from her Grandmother, and under the training of her Uncle Roa, to claim her birthright to be chief. To hold the mantle of chief she will have to convince her grandfather that she is beyond worthy of such a position and of "great" character..

Grandfather however is of the belief that to honour their ancestors, the age old tradition of male descendants leading the whanau must be upheld.  Can Pai convince everyone that she is a leader, and will her Grandfather change his opinion of her as a girl and see her true calling?

I would rate this movie 4 out of 5

Hey Harrison
I think that Pai should at least get a chance even if she is a girl. But I also rated this movie 4 out of 5 . Why did you rate it a 4 out of 5? Great job, Keep up the good work

Hello Vedel
Thank you for the positive reinforcement. I don't know I just feel like any movie has room for improvement. Why did you rate it 4 out of 5?

Hey Harrison
I rated this movie a 4 out of 5 because there was too much fighting. Out of all of these activities what was your favourite?

Hi Harrison,

Your summary of the whale rider trailer is so amazing, I'm just so stunned on how you can get all that information from 2 short trailers. I actually think it would be a great idea to watch Whale rider with the people who did the WLJ.

Hey Harrison!

This is a great summary of the Whale Rider! You have done a great job of putting it into your own words. I love that you have finished with a question... It leaves everyone wondering how the movie will end and makes us want to watch the full movie!

I think watching the full movie together would be a wonderful idea! Maybe you could ask one of your teachers if you can get together with the other WLJ participants at some point in term 3 to watch it...

Nicky :)

Hi Harrison
Your summary of the movie Whale rider is great. I decided to give it a three out of five because it doesn't seem like a movie I would watch. Keep up the great work.
