Winter Learning Journey Day 1 Bonus Activity

My flag symbolises every man and woman who represented New Zealand when they went to war in defense of peace, and of all those who didn't come back to their homeland.

  • The flower is a symbol of the blood which was shed, and the lives lost, with eternal gratitude and love of their sacrifice.
  • The green depicts the associated "kiwi" colour from the land they have come from.
  • The black is the colour of grief and mourning for where they have fallen.

Kia Ora Harrison!

I have really enjoyed reading your posts and seeing your thoughts and personality come through in them, especially in this post about your flag design! I love your thoughts and ideas around remembering the people who went before us to make a sacrifice for our country and our people. I think it is really important to remember them. That is very thoughtful!

What inspired your ideas? I would love to see a picture of your flag design if you're able to make one!

Keep up the great work Harrison as you continue to blog with us here holidays!

Nicky :)

Hello Nicky
Thank you for the positive reinforcement. I decided to create this because I have always had a weird fascination with the army.

Hey Harrison,

Thanks for sharing the image of your design - I am extra impressed! That is a flag I would proudly wave as a Kiwi - well done!

That's awesome - my grandfather went to war to assist in the medical department. Do you have any family that went to war?

Or do you think you'll join the army or navy when you're older?

Your flag is the best! I like how youre flag represents the men and women who went to war. I also did one, but my flag was designed differently. Keep up the great work :)

Hello Nicky

I know that my Dad was in the army when he was younger. No I don't want to join the army when I am older.

Hi Harrison,

I really like the reason why you created your flag like that, and I also really love the colours that you used.

Hello Harrison
I like how (Because it symbolizes blood) you made the rose red. Your flag looks amazing! Keep up the good work.
