Basic Facts-31/10/17
Today I sat a prototec basic facts test. It was a stage 8 timed test and I got 100%. I have3 made acceleration considering that last time I sat a basic facts test i only got 62% on a stage 7 timed. As i achieve the highest mark possible I can't exactly go any higher so as long as I stay at a 100% stage 8.

Chemical Change: Fire
Ask a question
What will happen when the fire from the match and the paper mix?
|
Construct a hypothesis( make a guess)
My hypothesis is the the paper will burn after it is ignited with fire.
|
Conduct the experiment
Paper and Fire
|
Record your observations and data colour change,
|
Analyse information
As all of these events have happened this is a chemical change.
|
Report results
In conclusion, the paper and fire experiment is a chemical change. This is true because there was a change of colour as the paper turned from a white-grey to a dark black. There was also a severe change in heat/temperature. Not only that but there was also a large amount of gas released in the form of the smoke. It is also a chemical change because a new substance was formed in with the old substance being newspaper and the new substance was burnt paper this change is also irreversible.

The Best Thing About Social Media
In my opinion, social media is a wonderful thing because it allows me to keep in contact with friends and family. As the majority of my family and other old friends live over on the other side of the world in the United Kingdom. It is quite hard to stay in contact with them. However social media helps with that, social networking sites and apps such as Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter are really helpful because they have a function where you ca private message people. This also helps to stay in contact with friends from school that I can’t really see unless we are at school, the reason being that I live too far away. It is the same for people from my sports as I play sports that are seasonal such as softball (summer) and rugby (winter). So if it weren’t for social media then I would be able to keep in contact. So, yes social media can sometimes be annoying but for me, social media is a way of connecting to my friends and family who I, unfortunately, can’t see on a daily basis.

Making Pancakes using the Scientific Method
Today in science we made pancakes to show evidence of a chemical change. We followed the scientific method. Which is; ask a question, make a hypothesis/guess, conduct an experiment, collect the data, analyze the information report the results. To start off we had to ask a question, my question was"Why does this mixture chemically change the way it does?" Not only did we have to ask a question we also had to hypothesize what would happen, my hypothesis was "When the batter gets heated up it will expand and solidify " which was correct!
To start off we mixed all of the ingredients together, then we pour the batter into a frying pan. Immediately you could see signs off a chemical change. After waiting for a while you could see that the batter was starting to bubble, this means that it was starting to release gas, it was also changing color from a pasty, white batter to a light brown, it was also giving off immense amounts of heat.

Maths 16 October 2017
Today in Maths we were learning about time. In particular the International Dateline and the International Timeline. We had to find out what they were and if they are the same thing.
The international date line is an imaginary line that is drawn down the side of the earth, it does not touch a single country so it is not a straight line. When you cross over the international date line you go into another day... for example if you to a three-hour flight from New Zealand to Rarotonga then you would be 23 hours that means that it would be a completely different day. If it was 12:00 pm Monday the 16th of October in New Zealand then it would be 1:00 pm Sunday 15th in Rarotonga.
The international timeline is longitude lines that run up and down the globe. There are 360 longitude lines in the world, however, to make it easier one-time zone is made up 10 lines. The 0 degrees longitude line runs through a place called Greenwich which is located in England. This zone in the central point of time that is why international time is called Greenwich time. New Zealand is 12-time zones ahead in England so therefor it is 12 hours ahead.
