Summer Learning Journey Day 4 Activity 2

In this activity, I had to pick a traditional Maori game and describe the rules and purpose of the game...

  1. Koruru Taonga/Knucklebones
  2. To try and catch as many stones as possible
  3. Rules

  • Overhand ones, twos, threes, fours—First "jockey" then eliminate all you have caught except one. Throw this one up and whilst it is in the air quickly pick one (two, three, or four) up off the ground, and then catch the one you threw up. Repeat with remaining knucklebones. You are able to sweep the knucklebones prior to picking them up.
  • Scatter ones, twos, threes, fours—Scatter all five, select and pick up one, throw it up and without "sweeping" proceed as above.

Another SLJ activity complete! 4 points coming your way!
It’s fantastic you found the instructions for the game, maybe you could add the link, so your blog readers can continue learning about the rules of knucklebones. I used to always forget the name of each level! I don’t think I could ever go higher than horse stable… :D

It would be great if you could add a photo because as some people may not know what knuckle bones looks like. It is such an old-fashioned game. They say it originated from the Greek and Roman Empire!! That’s crazy old!! If you would like to learn more about it, check out this website I found.

Keep up the great work!!
