Writing Assessment-Fire Drill Explnation

A fire could happen at any time, so it is best you know what to do. Fire drills save lives! These drills will tutor you what to do in case you are ever caught in a real fire. Every 6 months a school is required by the New Zealand fire department to do a fire drill. You are not the only one, schools throughout all of NZ have to do them.

A fire drill is a type of safety precaution. It is taken to make sure that you and all of you associates are safe. Not only that but they are also used to check that the alarms are working because if there is a real fire and the alarms don't work, then you are in trouble. Another concept checked when a fire drill happens is the escape plan, if you don't have an effective escape plan then you could become trapped and you don't want that to happen. The final that item is checked is the checked is the meeting point, you will have to check that your meeting point is far enough away from the fire that you are safe.

If you ever hear a fire alarm go off you should know what to do. As soon as you hear it, stand up and start walking to your nearest fire exit (these are marked with special green exit signs) Then assemble with the rest of your school at the designated safety zone. After that, you need to be a quiet as possible to make sure that everyone is present, if not then that means that they are still inside. Finally don’t go back inside until you get the all clear.

Recently there was a humongous fire at Grenfell towers. Unfortunately over 80 people died and over 70 were injured. This took place in west London on the 14th of June 2017. The fire brigade showed up at 6 minutes to one in the morning and the fire burned for 60 hours! It started on the fourth floor after a fridge freezer caught fire and due to the building exterior cladding the fire spread rapidly all the way up to the 28th floor burning 129 flats in the process. The deaths could have been avoided if they had a reasonable fire plan, where there’s was just stay where you are.

Remember that a fire can happen at any time. It could happen at school, at home or even in your car. So make sure you know where to go and what to do in the case of a fire. Remember to be ready for anything, anytime, anywhere…

Ball Boy for St Kents

Over the weekend I was a ball boy for a Sent Kents vs Auckland Grammar rugby game. The job of a ball boy is to retrieve the ball if it has been kicked or thrown out of play. I was placed on the auckland grammar side... boy oh boy they were loud. I really enjoyed it and would love to do it another time.

Newspaper Art

Materials:

1. Newspaper
2. Yellow Paint
3. White Paint
4. Black Paint
5. Coloured Card

Method:

1. Think of a sports position
2. Search for the image online
3. Draw or Trace the image onto some newspaper
4. Paint the image with white paint
5. Wait for the white paint to dry
6. Paint the image with yellow paint
7. Trace the outline with black paint
8. Wait for all the paint to dry
9. Tear very carefully around the edge
10. Paste the art onto coloured card

Simple Machine

We had to make a simple machine to show our learning about our topic study. I decided to make one using pulleys which is a wheel with a grooved rim around which a cord passes, which acts to change the direction of a force applied to the cord and is used to raise heavy weights. Mine is called "What goes up... must come down". It took a while to make but was deffinetly worth it.

Integers Crossword

WALHT: Get familiar with words associated with integers.

This puzzle helped to expand my vocabulary on integers. Some of the new weird words that I learnt were: absolute, inequality and operation. I really enjoyed doing this activity because it challenged me to think about word that could relate to the topic. I believe that this was a good use of my time as it helped to broaden my vocabulary.

Maori Song Learning

Today Ms Maude started to teach the song E Te Ariki which is a hymn or a Maori himene. It was quite hard to learn as I am not Maori so the words are weirdly pronounced from how they look. We will continue next week when Ms Maude comes in on Tuesday.

How Different Families Show Love In Different Ways

Family, it is the greatest gift ever given! Some of the greatest times that you have in your luxurious life is with your family. Family means something different to everybody. Your family is monumentally big, it has been going on for generations and generations. Thousands of years! It includes all siblings, parents, their parents now your grandparents. Also, your extended family which includes all of your Cousins, Aunties, Uncles and others. Unfortunately you have no choice because you are born into your family, well unless you're adopted.

Family has different meanings for each individual. It is a single word with many several meanings. You can either love them or you hate them. The definition of Family is “a group of people related by blood or marriage”.  The perception of family is based on culture, values, and perception. For you family could be something that you share your highest and deepest moment.

Families show love in many different ways. Your family can show love to you differently to how your best friends families shows love to them. One way that a family could show love would be giving gifts, whether it be: Christmas, your birthday or just a special day parents will usually give gifts to their children. Another way parents show love to their children is taking them on holidays to places all other the world. Have you ever the saying the “biggest things come in small packages” well that is the case with this way of showing love, one of the most basic ways to show love is just to say it.

Parents are some of the most generous people in the world. They supply the bare necessities to their children who cannot supply it for themselves.  They give them a roof over their head for shelter and protection from the harsh ever changing weather. Also, they supply clothes to keep their child warm and protect from embarrassment. Food and water is a major part of our lives because if we didn’t have it then we would either die from dehydration or hunger.

The family is where life begins and where love never ends. Families are the greatest thing in the world. They mean something different to each and every person. Families show love to their relatives in several ways. Also if it weren't for families everyone would probably be dead because there would be no way to supply for our needs. So if families didn’t exist we would live a really miserable life. Thank you to all of the families out there for raising the generations of the future.

Soccer Skills

Today we had football. We are going to have football for the next few weeks. I sure do need it. We got to play a small game which was just to help with our dribbling, passing, shooting and also tackling.

Some of the skills that we did were…

• Dribbling which is when you  take the ball past your opponents with slight touches of the feet. I rate myself 2 out of 5.
• Passing which is when you pass or give the ball to another team member. I rate myself 3.5 out of 5.
• Shooting which is when you aim for the goal and hit it in, if it successfully goes in the goal you will earn a point. I rate myself 2 out of 5.
• Tackling is when you try and steal the ball of your opponent using either the inside or the bottom of your feet. I rate myself 3 out of 5.

If I could compare my skills to another sport I would compare it to rugby where I think that I am very good. The reason why I compare soccer to rugby is because of how different they are…
