Today Anina from the ASB Getwise Programme came in to talk to us about saving money. She taught us that no matter what your job is you can save it just might take a little longer. It was actually really fun because we played a game where we were in teams of four and we were given $2000 to fund and support a trip to Fiji. We all had to think about flight prices, accommodation, insurance and activities. Our group payed $200 for the economy class flights, $500 for accommodation, $300 dollars for insurance. All of the other groups just payed for the cheapest items but our group played in the long run. At the end of the game our group was tied for first with group 3. I learnt that even if you don't have the highest paying job you can still earn money and as long as you save it and spend it wisely then you will be able to get whatever you want in the future. If there was anyone that I would need to give advice to it would be my older brother because he spends a money which he wanted to save.

Saving the Omaru Creek
The Omaru Creek is located in a suburb in east Auckland called Glen Innes. It is infested with rubbish, fat and polluted water. The residents of Glen Innes disposed baby wipes, mattress springs and household rubbish into this creek. Furthermore, cooking fats were poured down kitchen sinks resulting in blockages.
There was an overflow in the Omaru Creek so a Maintenance crew from Auckland Council was called they identified and solved the problem. They cleared out the blockage, removed all of the rubbish and also flushed the stream with clean fresh water. Now Glen Innes School needs to play their part in helping the community by cleaning up the stream and making sure that this never happens again.

PACE, ACCELERATION, CONSOLIDATION
The 3 keywords for this year are PACE, ACCELERATION and CONSOLIDATION. For the first basic facts assessment I got 31/40 at stage 8 in 5 minutes and 30 seconds and in week 3 I got 39/40 at stage 8 in 4 minutes and 5 seconds I think this is acceleration because I have decreased my time and improved my score
For the next basic facts I hope to get 40/40 in 3 minutes and 45 seconds I will consolidate by checking my answers and thinking before I answer.
