Summer Learning Journey Day 2 Activity 2
Summer Learning Journey Day 2 Activity 1
In this activity, I had to read articles about a wharepuni and compare them to a modern-day house.
A wharepuni and modern-day houses and similar and different in many different ways. Some of the ways that they are similar are that they are built to last a long time and for people to live/sleep in. Another way that they are similar is not by use but by the look of them from the outside a wharepuni and a home look very similar. Contrary to what I just said is the fact that they are completely different on the inside. Inside a wharepuni is a large open space where everyone just sleeps. This is because in a traditional Maori village there a building for other things such as cooking. Where in a modern day household there are bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens all in one place.
Summer Learning Journey Day 1 Bons Activity
In this activity I had to watch a Waka ama/race and decide whether or not I would like to enter in one...
Summer Learning Journey Day 1 Activity 2
In this activity, I had to write a letter to a friend from my home country giving them an update as to how our voyage from the homeland to New Zealand was...
Hey,
I just wanted to let you know that we arrived on land safely in the new country. We aren't sure what to call this new land. After we arrived we were just glad to put our exhausted feet on solid ground. I don't really know how to feel about this new land. I'm quite excited for all of the new adventures we are going to have but I'm a bit upset because I've left the rest of life behind to start a new one. With people that I don't really know well as well.
Well, I'll keep you up to date with all that happens.
From,
Harrison

Summer Learning Journey Day 1 Activity 1
In this activity, I had to read the Maori legend Maui and the big fish the write three facts that I learned from the story and also if I knew of any other Maori legends.
After reading Maui and the big fish I learned that...
I haven't heard that many legends about Maui. However, I have heard one of them. Maui and the sun, in this legend Maui and his brothers, slowed down the sun to make the days longer.
After reading Maui and the big fish I learned that...
- New Zealand was created by Maui after he pulled a big fish which created the north island and his canoe was formed by his canoe/waka.
- Maui used one of his ancestor's jawbone to pull up the big fish
- Maui was a trickster
I haven't heard that many legends about Maui. However, I have heard one of them. Maui and the sun, in this legend Maui and his brothers, slowed down the sun to make the days longer.
