Summer Learning Journey Day 5 Bonus Activity

In this activity I had to write up some questions to ask the olympic gold medalist boxer Bill Kini...

If I has the chance to interview Bill Kini I would ask him...
  • What inspired you to participate in rugby and boxing?
  • What was the average timing of your training?
  • What motivated you to never give up?
  • What was the best experience yet?

Summer Learning Journey Day 5 Activity 2

In this activity, I had to choose which activity I would most like to do at the Waitangi treaty grounds...

  1. See a copy of the Treaty of Waitangi inside the treaty house
  2. Walk a 6-kilometer forest walk that leads to Haruru Falls, the natural environment is spectacular.
  3. Walk along the shoreline provides a continuously changing panorama of the bay where Warriors, sailors, and settlers arrived in New Zealand.

In my opinion, the best and most fun thing to would be to go and see a copy of the treaty inside the treaty house. I have gone down to Wellington and I have also been to Te Papa where I have seen the original treaty but I think it would be really cool to go to the place where it was written and signed over 100 years ago.

Summer Learning Journey Day 4 Bonus Activity

In this activity, I had to rank three Maori songs/waiata with 1 being the best and 3 being the worst...

1. Te Puku o Te Ika
The reason why I liked this song was that of the lyrics and choreography that was on display. It was really good and also really we rehearsed.

2.Tamatea Arikinui
The main reason why I liked this song was the use of poi in the dance. Along with the sound of the vocals and also the lyrics.

3. Te Iti Kahurangi
The reason that this song is third is not that it was terrible. It is here because it just didn't appeal to me in the way that I would like it.

Summer Learning Journey Day 4 Activity 2

In this activity, I had to pick a traditional Maori game and describe the rules and purpose of the game...

  1. Koruru Taonga/Knucklebones
  2. To try and catch as many stones as possible
  3. Rules

  • Overhand ones, twos, threes, fours—First "jockey" then eliminate all you have caught except one. Throw this one up and whilst it is in the air quickly pick one (two, three, or four) up off the ground, and then catch the one you threw up. Repeat with remaining knucklebones. You are able to sweep the knucklebones prior to picking them up.
  • Scatter ones, twos, threes, fours—Scatter all five, select and pick up one, throw it up and without "sweeping" proceed as above.

Summer Learning Journey Day 4 Activity 1

In this activity I had to find a maori waiata that I liked and say why I liked it so much...

What I really liked about this song was the way that they sang it. I also loved how they said the words so clearly. Although I don't understand what they are saying I still really loved it.
